Freddy, un
métis béninois que tout le monde prend
pour un « Yovo » (un Blanc) mais qui parle le fon fête ses 46 ans, Il finit ses études au CNHU (Centre National
Hospitalier et Universitaire) de Cotonou puis devient médecin cardiologue. Or ici, dans ce roman, c’est le « cœur »
qui nous intéresse.
Everybody considers Freddy as a « Yovo »,
a white person living in Benin, but in fact he is a Metis who speaks fon. He is celebrating his 46th
birthday and finishing his studies at the CNHU (National Hospital and
University Centre) of Cotonou, then he becomes a heart surgeon. And the “heart” is the main topic of this
novel.
Freddy est
une « poubelle », p84. « Les
poubelles sont des personnes tellement gentilles qu’elles acceptent tout ». Sa mère, Marie-Anne est une mère célibataire
qui lui a payé ses études et qui lui achète une voiture grâce à l’argent de ses
nombreuses « tontines ».
Freddy est son fils unique.
Freddy is a « bin », that is to
say he is so kind he accepts everything.
His mother is a single mother who paid his studies and pays him a car
with the money of “tontines”.
On en
apprend beaucoup sur la vie béninoise et « l’humeur amoureuse » p72
est un mélange de quatre jus : goyave, mangue, tomate et gingembre.
We learn a lot on Beninese life and the “romantic
mood” on p72 is a mixture of four juices: goyave fruit, mango, tomato and
ginger.
L’histoire
commence Le 1er octobre 1999 et finit le 11 septembre 2001. On va aussi revivre le drame du grand baobab
qui va s’écrouler en cette nuit du 8 février 2000.
The story starts on October 1st, 1999 and
finishes on September 11th, 2001. We
will also experience again the disaster of the great Baobab tree that will
collapse on this night of February 8th, 2000.
Freddy a un
choix à faire. Lucette, c’est son choix
du cœur. Ou est-ce Lucette qui a un
choix « de cœur » à faire ?
Lucette est une princesse d’Abomey secrète qui danse le Zinli royal. Mais Isabelle a aussi ses charmes, ainsi que
Christiane, qui est infirmière au CNHU.
Donc, la
question est, qui va faire son choix « du cœur » ? Et quelles vont en être les conséquences ?
C’est un roman passionnant de Marc Saïzonou.

Lucette is a mysterious Princess of Abomey who dances the Royal
Zinli. But there is also Isabelle in
Freddy’s life and Christiane, the seductive nurse also working at the CNHU.
So who will make his or her choice? And what will be the consequences of this
choice?
This is a captivating novel by Marc
